Saunders, 30, returns to the Blue Jays organization after starting the 2017 season with the Philadelphia Phillies. In 61 games with the Phillies, he hit .205 with six home runs and 20 RBI.
Saunders had one of his best statistical seasons in 2016 while playing for Toronto. He notched career-highs in games played (140), batting average (.253), doubles (32), home runs (24), and tied his career high in RBI (57). He was also named to the American League All-Star team that season.

Saunders has represented his home country of Canada in both the 2008 Beijing Olympic Games, and the 2013 World Baseball Classic (WBC). While playing in the 2013 WBC, he was named to the All-WBC Team as an outfielder.
