Jen-Ho Tseng Named Chicago Cubs Minor League Pitcher of the Month

CHICAGO - The Chicago Cubs today named Iowa starting pitcher Jen-Ho Tseng the organization's minor league pitcher of the month. This is the second time Tseng has collected a Cubs monthly honor, the first was for July of 2014, and the fourth time the parent club has recognized an I-Cub this season.

Tseng, 22, was called up to Iowa from Double-A Tennessee on July 4 for his first stint at the Triple-A level. The righty got off to a blistering start, winning his first four outings and compiling a 1.42 ERA (4ER/25.1IP). His ERA was tied for the second-best mark in the Pacific Coast League in the month and his .204 opponent batting average (19-for-93) was the third-lowest. Tseng became the first Iowa Cub to win his first four Triple-A starts since Mitch Atkins in 2008.
His hot Triple-A start followed the first 10-strikeout game of Tseng's career with the Smokies on July 3 against Jacksonville. In total, he was 4-1 with a 2.25 ERA (8ER/32.0IP) between the two levels in July.
Tseng was recognized earlier in the month by the PCL, netting Pitcher of the Week honors for the span of July 17-23. The right-hander went 2-0 with a 0.64 ERA (1ER/14.0IP) in the week, notching consecutive seven-inning outings and allowing just seven hits while fanning 13.
The Taiwan native was a signed by Chicago as a non-drafted free agent in 2013. He is in his fourth season in the Cubs organization.
