Portland, ME - The Eastern League is pleased to announce Portland Sea Dogs outfielder Jeremy Barfield has been selected as the Eastern League Player of the Month for the month of July.

Barfield batted .336 (37-for-110) with five doubles, 12 home runs, 33 RBIs, 26 runs scored, a .422 on-base percentage, and a .709 slugging percentage in 30 games during the month. The 29-year old had at least one hit in 24 of the 30 games he played in during the month, including ending the month with a 10-game hitting streak from July 21st-July 30th. That hitting streak also included a stretch of four straight games with a home run from July 23rd-July 26th.
The 6'5", 245 lb. slugger led all Eastern League players in home runs (12), RBIs (33), runs scored (26), extra-base hits (17), total bases (78), slugging percentage (.709), and OPS (1.131) during the month of July. He also finished ranked among the monthly league leaders in hits (37-2nd), batting average (.336-4th), and on-base percentage (.422-4th). Jeremy's strong performance during the month also helped him earn the Eastern League Player of the Week Award for the period of July 24th-July 30th, during which he batted .444 with six home runs and 15 RBIs in seven games.
Barfield is batting .306 (75-for-245) with 15 doubles, 19 home runs, 51 RBIs, and 48 runs scored, in 64 games for the Sea Dogs this season. His 19 home runs this season is currently tied for the fourth most in the league. Jeremy, who is the son of former MLB All-Star Jesse Barfield, was signed by the Boston Red Sox as a minor league free agent on May 25, 2017. He was originally drafted by the Oakland Athletics in the eighth round of the 2008 draft out of San Jacinto College and also previously spent time in the Colorado organization.
