WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. (Aug. 14, 2017) - After hitting .385 (10-for-26) with three home runs and seven RBIs last week, Winston-Salem outfielder Eloy Jiménez has earned the Carolina League's Player of the Week award for the week of August 7-13, the league office announced Monday.
Jimenez has been a constant source of production since joining the Dash on July 13 as a part of the trade between the White Sox and Cubs that involved big leaguer Jose Quintana. In his time with Winston-Salem, the Dominican Republic native has clocked eight homers and driven in 26 runs during his 28 games in the Triad, while posting an 1.142 OPS. The 20-year-old surged through his 17 July contests with the Dash, earning the White Sox Minor League Co-Player of the Month award alongside Winston-Salem alumnus Jake Peter.

Rated the fifth-best prospect in the Minor Leagues per Baseball America, Jimenez has earned back-to-back trips to the SiriusXM All-Star Futures Game in 2016 and 2017, as well as Midseason All-Star nods in both the Midwest League with Low-A South Bend and the Carolina League with Myrtle Beach. Originally a 2013 international signee by the Chicago Cubs, Jimenez's .308 batting average in his 70 games between the Dash and Pelicans would stand at second-best in the Carolina League if he had enough plate appearances to qualify, while his 16 home runs are tied for fifth-best in the CL.
Jimenez is the third player to claim a weekly league honor this year. Left-hander Tanner Banks collected Winston-Salem's first Pitcher of the Week honor from June 12-18, thanks to a nine-inning, five-hit shutout on June 13 against Down East, while White Sox prospect Alec Hansen accomplished the feat after his six-inning, 12-strikeout effort on August 5 against Potomac.
The Dash are set to begin a five-game, four-day homestand with the Myrtle Beach Pelicans on Monday. The promotional schedule for the series includes our final All-You-Can-Eat for Free Night on Monday, another Lowes Foods Thirsty Thursday, Pups in the Park and much more. Also, for Winston-Salem's doubleheader against the Pelicans, the Dash will pay homage to their previous moniker once more this season, donning throwback Warthogs uniforms for game one before changing back to the Dash for the twin bill finale.
