FRISCO, Texas (June 8, 2019) - Riders pitcher Joe Palumbo has been recalled by the Texas Rangers and will make his Major League debut today against Oakland, the Rangers announced Saturday.
Palumbo enjoyed a tremendous start to the season to the 2019 season with the RoughRiders, logging a 3.38 ERA in his first 10 outings. He has struck out 65 hitters in just 50 2/3 innings, keeping opponents to a .222 average along the way. The southpaw leaves the Texas League on the circuit's leaderboard in ERA (4th, 3.38), strikeouts (T3rd, 65), opponent average (3rd, .222) and WHIP (8th, 1.28).
Originally selected by Texas in the 30th round of the 2015 draft from St. John the Baptist High School (West Islip, NY), Palumbo will become the 155th former Riders player to reach the Major Leagues and the sixth this season.
