Jordan Lawlar Set to Make MLB Debut

Amarillo, Texas (September 7, 2023) – Today, the Arizona Diamondbacks selected the contract of *Jordan Lawlar *from Triple-A Reno. The D-backs’ top-rated prospect is scheduled to make his MLB debut tonight during the team’s opening game of a four-game road trip in Chicago against the Cubs. Lawlar is currently ranked as the no. 10-overall prospect by MLB Pipeline. In 89 games with Amarillo this season, Lawlar hit .263 (92-for-35) with 23 doubles, three triples, 15 home runs, and 48 RBI before a promotion to Reno.

Lawlar was selected by the Arizona Diamondbacks with the sixth overall pick in the 2021 MLB Draft out of Jesuit Prep High School in Dallas. He made his Double-A debut with the Sod Poodles at the end of the 2022 season, playing in 20 games after a promotion from High-A Hillsboro on August 23, 2022. After a mixed start to the 2023 season, Lawlar hit .313 (73-for-223) with 19 doubles, two triples, 10 home runs, and 32 RBI with 60 runs and 27 walks over his final 57 games with Amarillo from May 23rd on. After a promotion to Triple-A, Lawlar hit .358 in 16 games with the Aces including his first career multi-HR game in his final game with the Aces before getting the call to Arizona. He hit his first Triple-A home run in his second at-bat after the promotion from Amarillo.

He is the 46th former Sod Poodle player to make it to ‘The Show’ and the 19th to debut with the Diamondbacks. He joins OF Dominic Canzone, OF Corbin Carroll, RHP Slade Cecconi, OF Dominic Fletcher, RHP Luis Frias, OF Stone Garrett, LHP Tommy Henry, C Jose Herrera, LHP Tyler Holton, RHP Drey Jameson, INF Buddy Kennedy, RHP Justin Martinez, OF Jake McCarthy, RHP Ryne Nelson, LHP Andrew Saalfrank, RHP Brandyn Sittinger, and OF Alek Thomas. Former Sod Poodles RHP Humberto Mejia and INF Geraldo Perdomo were recalled to the Major League roster during the 2021 season.

Lawlar will be hitting eighth in the D-backs lineup while getting the start at shortstop for his MLB debut.
