FORT MYERS, Fla. (June 27, 2017) - Shane Kennedy delivered the Fort Myers Miracle's (3-2) fourth walk-off win of the season on Tuesday night. His single gave them a 3-2 victory over the Clearwater Threshers (3-2). RHP Cody Stashak kept his team in the game with a season high 7.1 innings and eight strikeouts for the Miracle.
Stashak and Threshers' starter RHP José Taveras both cruised through their starts and did not allow a run through the first four innings. In the top of the fifth after a two-out walk of Cord Sandberg, Jose Pujols laced a double to the right field wall giving the Threshers a 1-0 lead.
After Taveras dealt his six scoreless frames, RHP Luke Leftwich entered to face the bottom of the Miracle order. Tanner English delivered a one-out single followed by a Sean Miller double down the right field line to tie the game. With the infield in, Max Murphy singled up the middle scoring Miller and giving Fort Myers the lead.
Stashak was lifted in the eighth for LHP Sam Clay (W, 6-0) with runners at the corners and one out. The first pitch Clay threw to Emmanuel Marrero saw the Threshers' shortstop push a bunt to the right side. The squeeze play scored Grenny Cumana to tie the game at two.
After Clay tossed a clean ninth, the Miracle went to work against LHP Tyler Gilbert (L, 0-4). Miller used another double down the right field line to climb aboard as the winning run. The ball was in singles territory, but he turned on the jets to stretch it into a two-bagger. Murphy then singled to left, but Miller was forced to hold up at third as he did not know if the ball would sneak through the infield at first. That set the scene for Kennedy who punched a ball over the head of the first baseman Wilson Garcia to score Miller and win the game.
The two teams battle in game two on Wednesday night with LHP Lachlan Wells dealing against RHP Jacob Waguespack. First pitch on a Women's WINsday is set for 7:05 PM ET.
