CEDAR RAPIDS, IOWA - The Cedar Rapids Kernels registered eight doubles and scored the first eight runs of Monday's 10-4 triumph over the Lake County Captains in the rubber game of a three-game series at Perfect Game Field at Veterans Memorial Stadium. Cedar Rapids' eight doubles were most by any Midwest League team this season and the best total by the Kernels since April 29, 2008 at the Burlington Bees.
David Banuelos opened the scoring and the doubles barrage during the second inning. With two outs and two runners aboard, Bañuelos doubled to drive in Ben Rodriguez and Jean Carlos Arias for a quick 2-0 Kernels advantage.

Arias and Trey Cabbage stretched Cedar Rapids' lead to 5-0 in the third. Arias hit an RBI single that brought in Jose Miranda. Cabbage provided the latest two-run double with Rodriguez and Arias coming home on the play.
Three more runs within the fifth put the Kernels (17-8, 49-45) up by an 8-0 margin. Rodriguez collected an RBI double early in the inning. Andrew Bechtold and Bañuelos each added RBI singles later in the rally.
Lake County (12-13, 41-54) broke up the shutout during the top of the sixth inning. Elvis Perez blasted a three-run home run to right-center field to slice the Captains' deficit to 8-3.
The Kernels answered with runs in the sixth and seventh innings to increase their lead to 10-3. Arias doubled in the sixth to bring in Akil Baddoo. Jacob Pearson produced a sacrifice fly in the seventh that allowed Bañuelos to come home.
In the top of the ninth, the Captains added a final tally that only trimmed Cedar Rapids' lead by a run. Nolan Jones led off with a solo home run, but the Kernels held on for a 10-4 victory.
Randy Dobnak (7-2) posted a career-high-tying seven strikeouts and limited Lake County to three runs over seven innings pitched within his team-high seventh victory this season. Francisco Perez (7-6) gave up five runs in three innings and took the loss.
