BROOKLYN, NY – The Frederick Keys concluded their 2026 regular season schedule with a series finale win over the Brooklyn Cyclones (Mets) Sunday afternoon, winning by a score of 6-5 from Maimonides Park.
The Keys scored six runs in the top of the second and never looked back enroute to the victory, as they prepare for postseason play which begins on Tuesday night against the Greensboro Grasshoppers.
Following a scoreless first inning for both sides to begin the afternoon, the Keys erupted for a six-run top of the second inning, which began with back-to-back bases loaded walks drawn by Elis Cuevas and Andres Nolaya.
From there, two-RBI base hits from DJ Layton and Enddy Azocar pushed the Frederick lead up to six, which they would hang on to approaching the third in the regular season finale.
Brooklyn answered with two runs however in the bottom of third and fourth innings with two 2-RBI singles cutting their deficit to two at 6-4 through three innings of play from Maimonides Park.
The Cyclones made it a one-run game in the bottom of the fifth on an RBI single, taking the game to the sixth with the score at 6-5 in favor of the Keys Sunday afternoon.
Kiefer Lord threw a scoreless bottom of the sixth in his first game off the injured list, allowing Frederick to stay ahead by one entering the seventh inning from Coney Island.
After the Keys and Cyclones traded zeros in the seventh, Jack Crowder picked off Ronald Hernandez at third and struck out the last batter of the frame to keep the Keys leading 6-5 going into the ninth in the Big Apple.
Crowder ended up striking out the side in the bottom of the ninth to close out the regular season strong for Frederick, winning the series finale in Coney Island over the Cyclones by a score of 6-5.
Following an off-day on Monday, the Keys begin their postseason run in the South Atlantic League North Division Championship series with game one of the best of three series with the Greensboro Grasshoppers (Pirates). First pitch from First National Bank Field is set for 6:30 p.m. in Greensboro.
