BROOKLYN, NY – The Frederick Keys recorded their 81st win of the regular season Friday night in a Friday night victory over the Brooklyn Cyclones (Mets) winning by a score of 9-5 from Maimonides Park.
The 81st win of the season is a new franchise record for wins in the regular season, which broke a record set back in 2011 when Frederick won 80 games, as they now set 1.5 games ahead of the Greensboro Grasshoppers for first place in the second half standings with two games left to go in the regular season.
Twine Palmer began his night strong in the bottom of the first with two strikeouts in a scoreless frame, keeping it a 0-0 contest through one inning of play Friday night.
The Cyclones struck first in the bottom of the second with a solo homer off the bat of John Spikerman, making it a 1-0 game heading into the third from Maimonides Park.
After a scoreless third inning for both sides, Randal Diaz knotted up the game at one apiece in the top of the fourth with a solo homer to left, but Brooklyn brought home two more runs in the bottom frame to itself a 3-1 advantage approaching the fifth in Coney Island.
Following a scoreless fifth inning on both sides, Brooklyn added two more runs on a two-run homer from Alejandro Urias in the bottom of the sixth, handing the Cyclones a 5-1 lead going into the seventh in the Big Apple.
With each side finishing with a zero in the seventh, the Keys began their comeback in the top of the eighth, putting two runners on base for Braylin Tavera down four.
Tavera launched a two-RBI double into right-center field to make it a 5-3 game, while Jaiden Lo Re sent home two more runs on another two-RBI double, with this one being into left-center field.
From there, Yasmil Bucce launched a three-run homer into right-center field to cap off the seven-run frame, handing Frederick an 8-5 lead approaching the ninth trying to finish strong on the road.
Colin Yeaman put the Keys lead up to four in the top of the ninth on an RBI groundout, making it a 9-5 game entering the bottom of the ninth, with Braeden Sloan trying to close it out in the bottom frame up by four.
Sloan went on to finish the job in the bottom frame with a 1-2-3 bottom of the ninth, handing the Keys their 81st win of the season, setting a regular season record in franchise history, as they won by a score of 9-5 Friday night.
The Keys prepare for game five of the series against the Cyclones Saturday night, with first pitch set for 6 p.m. from Maimonides Park on Coney Island.
