FREDERICK, MD – The Frederick Keys split a doubleheader Sunday afternoon and evening against the Asheville Tourists (Astros), losing game one by a score of 6-0 and winning game two by a score of 7-2 from Nymeo Field at Harry Grove Stadium.

The Keys finished off the regular season home stand with a game two victory after scoring five runs in the bottom of the sixth inning, handing Frederick their 77th win of the year with one more regular season series left this coming week.

Game 1:

Asheville struck first with a solo homer in the top of the first, but Christian Rodriguez struck out the side for Frederick, keeping it at a 1-0 game through an inning of play.

After a scoreless second inning on both sides, the Tourists plated home five runs in the top of the third, increasing their advantage to a 6-0 lead heading into the fourth inning in game one of the doubleheader.

Following the Keys and Tourists finishing with zeros in the fourth, Ben Vespi picked up a scoreless frame in the top of the fifth, taking the game to the sixth with Frederick aiming to chip away at the six-run deficit.

Vespi followed that up with a 1-2-3 sixth inning of work, keeping it a 6-0 game approaching the seventh inning on Fan Appreciation Day at Nymeo Field.

With Vespi capping off his relief courtesy of another 1-2-3 inning in the top of the seventh, the Keys went down in order to conclude the game, as the Tourists took game one of two by a score of 6-0 from Nymeo Field at Harry Grove Stadium.

Game 2:

Frederick struck first in game two courtesy of an RBI sacrifice bunt from Leandro Arias to bring home Jaiden Lo Re from third base, giving the home team a 1-0 lead after one inning of play.

Following the Keys and Tourists trading zeros in the second, Carson Dorsey struck out the side in order in the top of the third, keeping the Keys ahead by one heading into the fourth during the final game of the regular season.

After both starting pitchers tossed scoreless frames in the fourth inning, Colin Yeaman hit his third homer of the season in the bottom of the fifth inning, as his solo homer to right made it a 2-0 game in favor of the Keys approaching the sixth inning.

The Tourists cut the lead in half in the top of the sixth on a wild pitch, but Frederick quickly responded during the bottom frame with five runs in the inning.

With two outs in the inning, Jordan Sanchez delivered home a two-RBI single to center field, and DJ Layton capped off the frame with a three-run homer to right-center, making it a 7-1 game entering the seventh inning, as the Keys tried to finish off the homestand strong Sunday night.

Despite a solo homer in the top of the seventh for the Tourists, Brendan Parks closed out the game on the mound, getting the Keys a 7-2 win in game two of the doubleheader in their final regular season home game of 2026.

Following the league-wide off day on Monday, the Keys head to Coney Island for their final series of the regular season starting on Tuesday night. Two games will take place on Tuesday with the first game being the conclusion of the suspended July 5 game from Nymeo Field. A nine-inning game will take place afterwards. First pitch is set for 5:30 p.m. from Maimonides Park.
