Keys Take Down Tourists in Series Opener

FREDERICK, MD – The Frederick Keys recorded the series opening win against the Asheville Tourists (Astros) Tuesday night winning by a score of 6-3 from Nymeo Field at Harry Grove Stadium.
The Keys recorded 17 strikeouts as a pitching staff for the second straight game as they took down Asheville in the first ever meeting between the two sides, as Frederick got their 73rd win as a result during the last regular season homestand of the 2026 campaign.
Despite Asheville taking an early 1-0 lead in the top of the first on an RBI sacrifice fly, the Keys answered back with a four-run bottom frame courtesy of a three-run homer from Jaiden Lo Re in his Keys debut.
After each side went off the board in the second, Christian Rodriguez struck out the side in the top of the third, keeping the Keys ahead by three through three innings of play in the series opener.
Following a scoreless fourth inning for the Tourists and Keys, the visitors got one more run back on a throwing error during the top of the fifth, but an RBI sacrifice fly in the bottom frame from Lo Re along with an RBI double from Leandro Arias put the Keys up by four at 6-2 heading into the sixth from the Key City.
With each team trading zeros during the sixth inning of play, Chandler Marsh tossed a 1-2-3 top of the seventh inning, allowing the Keys to keep their four-run lead going into the eighth at Nymeo Field at Harry Grove Stadium.
The Tourists brought home on a third run with a solo homer, but Marsh finished the inning strong by retiring the last three of the frame, taking the game to the ninth with Frederick leading 6-3.
Brendan Parks went on to retire the side in order in the top of the ninth, securing the series opening win for the Keys, as they held on for the 6-3 victory over the Tourists Tuesday night at home.
Game two of the six-game series between the Keys and Tourists is set for Wednesday night, with first pitch at 7 p.m. from Nymeo Field at Harry Grove Stadium.
