BROOKLYN, NY – The Frederick Keys earned two victories over the Brooklyn Cyclones (Mets) Tuesday night to begin the final series of the regular season, winning by scores of 3-2 in 10 innings and 6-4 in seven innings from Maimonides Park.
The Keys completed the game from July 5 in 10 innings on a walk-off single from Yasmil Bucce before winning the official series opener in a seven-inning shortened game due to a later start time.
Conclusion of Suspended Game:
The game was the conclusion of the July 5 game that was suspended due to inclement weather as the game began in the bottom of the eighth with the score tied at two apiece with the Keys having a runner on third with two outs and the count being 2-0.
After a scoreless bottom of the eighth inning began the tiebreaker, Braeden Sloan went on to throw a scoreless top of the ninth, and then Keys went off the board in the bottom frame, forcing extra innings with the score knotted at two apiece.
Sloan threw a scoreless top of the 10th and then Yasmil Bucce sent home the winning run on an RBI single to left-center, giving the Keys the walk-off win in Brooklyn by a score of 3-2.
Game 2:
Following a two-hour rain delay that pushed back the start time, Brooklyn took an early 2-0 lead in the bottom of the first on an RBI single and RBI sacrifice fly, but a leaping catch from Ty Head in center field kept it a 2-0 game heading into the second inning during the seven-inning contest.
Frederick took the lead in the top of the second with a three-run frame thanks to an RBI fielders choice for Braylon Whitaker and a two-out two-RBI double from DJ Layton, making it a 3-2 lead for the Keys through the first two innings Tuesday night.
After a scoreless third inning for both sides, a wild pitch in the top of the fourth brought home Colin Yeaman from third, increasing the lead to 4-2 approaching the fifth from Coney Island.
Braylin Tavera put home an RBI single up the middle in the top of the fifth to give the Keys a 5-2 lead going into the sixth from Maimonides Park.
The Cyclones got one run back in the bottom of the sixth on a solo homer to left, but Jake Dykhoff struck out the last batter he faced in the frame, taking the game to the seventh with the visitors leading 5-3.
Leandro Arias brought home one more run in the top of the seventh for the Keys on a double play ball, handing Frederick a 6-3 lead approaching the bottom of the seventh, with Dykoff aiming to close it out in the final frame.
Despite Brooklyn hitting a second solo homer of the night in the bottom of the seventh, Dykoff retired the last batter of the game, giving the Keys the game one victory by a score of 6-4 from Coney Island in Brooklyn.
Game two of the final six-game series of the season between the Keys and Cyclones is set for 6:40 p.m. Wednesday night from Maimonides Park.
