FREDERICK, MD – The Frederick Keys took down the Asheville Tourists (Astros) for the third time in as many days Friday night, winning by a score of 4-2 in game three of the six-game series at Nymeo Field at Harry Grove Stadium.
Led by a 10-strikeout performance from Keys starting pitcher and left-hander Stephen Still, the Keys secured at least the series split over the Tourists and will look for the series win heading into the second half of the series Friday night.
Following a scoreless first inning for both sides to begin the night, the Keys took a 2-0 lead in the bottom of the second on an Asheville error and an RBI single from Andres Nolaya, handing the home team the early edge Friday night.
The Tourists evened things up at two apiece in the top of the third on a two-run homer, making it a 2-2 game through the first three innings of play in game three of the six-game series.
Frederick took the lead back however in the bottom of the fourth courtesy of a passed ball that sent in Braylin Tavera from third and a second RBI base knock from Nolaya, putting the home team back up by two heading into the fifth from the Key City.
After both sides went off in the fifth inning, Still recorded a scoreless top of the sixth en-route to his first career quality start in the Minor Leagues, allowing the Keys to stay ahead by two going into the seventh from Nymeo Field at Harry Grove Stadium.
Still capped his 6.2 innings of two-run ball with his 10th strikeout in the top of the seventh, keeping the Keys in front by two approaching the eighth inning in Frederick.
Bradley Brehmer worked a 1-2-3 inning in the top of the eighth in relief, taking the game to the ninth with the Keys leading by two in front of 6,672 fans at Nymeo Field at Harry Grove Stadium.
In the ninth, Braeden Sloan retired the side in order, securing the game three win for the Keys as they defeated the Tourists by a score of 4-2 Friday night at home.
The Keys and Tourists meet for the fourth time in five days Saturday night, with first pitch set for 6 p.m. from Nymeo Field at Harry Grove Stadium.
