Making his 10th start of the season, Jordan Guerrero (L, 2-5) got off to a rough start. Kean Wong homered in the first to start the scoring and Nathan Lukes' RBI single doubled the durham lead in the second.
Two innings later, Jake Cronenworth's grand slam put the Bulls ahead 6-0. Two more runs in the fifth ended Guerrero's afternoon. Over 5.0 innings, the lefty gave up eight runs, seven earned, on 11 hits with two walks and two strikeouts to suffer the loss.
In relief of Guerrero, Zach Thompson was sharp, throwing 3.0 scoreless innings with two strikeouts. Thyago Viera gave up two runs in the ninth to cap the scoring.
Offensively, the best chance of the afternoon for the Knights came in the second when they loaded the bases, but fly outs from Joel Booker and Danny Mendick ended the inning with the runners still on base.
The Knights were limited to three singles by four Durham pitchers in their first shutout loss of the season.
Despite the loss, the Knights have won nine of their last 13 overall and boast an impressive 17-9 record at BB&T Ballpark.
The Knights hit the road to begin a six-game road trip with the first of three games against the Indianapolis Indians on Tuesday night at Victory Field. Pre-game radio coverage of the 7:05 p.m. game is set for 6:50 p.m. on 730 The Game ESPN Charlotte. The "Voice of the Charlotte Knights" Matt Swierad will have the call for all of the action.
