(UPTOWN CHARLOTTE, NC) -- RHP Michael Kopech , who is 0-1 with a 2.14 ERA and 29 strikeouts in 21.0 innings pitched so far this season, has been named as the Chicago White Sox Minor League Pitcher of the Month for April. The award is voted on each month by a panel of Chicago-area media members.

Kopech, who turned 22 years old on Monday, is scheduled to start tonight's game for the Knights at BB&T Ballpark against the Gwinnett Stripers (Triple-A affiliate of the Atlanta Braves). Rated as the number two prospect in the White Sox system by Baseball America, Kopech has already started four games for the Knights this season. The Mount Pleasant, TX native is currently fifth in the International League in strikeouts and 12th in ERA.

Last season, Kopech posted a 9-8 record with a 2.88 ERA in 25 starts combined between Double-A Birmingham and Charlotte. He struck-out 172 batters in 2017, which ranked as the fifth best mark in all of Minor League Baseball. Last season, he was a two-time White Sox Minor League Pitcher of the Month and he earned the Southern League's Most Outstanding Pitcher of the Year Award after ranking among the league leaders in strikeouts, ERA, and WHIP.
