WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. (Aug. 7, 2018) - Thanks to a brilliant start from Kyle Kubat and a two-run homer from Luis González, the Dash edged Myrtle Beach 3-2 on Tuesday night at BB&T Ballpark.
Winston-Salem (27-16, 68-45) and its prospect-laden offense - featuring six of the White Sox top 30 prospects according to MLB Pipeline - struck in the bottom of the third inning. With a runner on first base and two outs, Luis Robert reached on a fielder's choice. Then, Gonzalez crushed a 2-0 pitch from Tyson Miller (8-8) over the right-field fence - a 407-foot blast - to give the Dash a 2-0 lead.

Meanwhile, Kubat (6-1) dominated the Myrtle Beach (16-29, 50-65) offense. He allowed just two hits across his career-high seven innings, allowing only one batter to reach second base. The Dash southpaw struck out five and did not issue a walk while retiring the final nine batters he faced.
While Kubat cruised, the Dash tacked on a run in the fourth inning. Blake Rutherford hit a ground ball up the middle and turned it into a leadoff double by catching the Myrtle Beach defense by surprise. Next, Yermin Mercedes continued his recent hot streak, lifting an RBI single to shallow right field to bring home Rutherford.
Mercedes finished the night 2-for-4 with an RBI, raising his average to .577 (15-for-29) over his last 10 games. Meanwhile, Robert, who is the 25th-best prospect in baseball according to MLB Pipeline, ended the night 2-for-4 with two stolen bases and a run scored.
The Pelicans drew close in the top of the eighth inning, scoring twice against Blake Hickman. After Wladimir Galindo singled up the middle to lead off the frame, Roberto Caro doubled down the left-field line to put runners on second and third with nobody out. Then, Tyler Alamo hit a sacrifice fly to right field that brought home Galindo and moved Caro to third. Caro later came home to score when Mercedes overthrew third base on a pickoff attempt.
Hunter Schryver made his BB&T Ballpark debut in the ninth inning, retiring the side in order to earn his first save with Winston-Salem.
