Nootbaar completes cycle in desert

Scottsdale 6, Glendale 5 (F/11)
Cardinals’ Lars Nootbaar completed a cycle with a bloop single in the 11th inning for the Desert Dogs. Hitting out of the leadoff spot, the 24-year-old worked a four-pitch walk in the first, doubled to left in the third, tripled to right in the seventh and mashed a game-tying home run to right in the ninth. The long ball was his fifth of the Fall League and pulled him back into a tie atop on the leaderboard with Boston’s Jeter Downs. The four-knock performance raised Nootbaar’s AFL slash line to a whopping .375/.490/.900. through his first 10 games.

For the Scorpions, Cleveland’s Jose Tena (No. 12) collected three hits – with a double – and drove in a run. Red Sox infield prospect Christian Koss capped a three-hit, three-RBI game with a walk-off knock to right. More »

Peoria 6, Salt River 5 (F/10)
Michael Toglia nearly played the hero after he launched a booming go-ahead three-run homer for the Rafters in the sixth inning. The long ball was his third of the campaign and gave Salt River its first lead of the game. However, the Javelinas rallied late with a pair of runs in the ninth and in the 10th to pull off the come-from-behind victory. The sixth-ranked Rockies prospect finished with a pair of knocks and is sporting a .947 OPS through 11 Fall League games.

On the other side, Atlanta’s 28th-ranked prospect William Woods worked around three hits and a pair of walks to post four scoreless frames with two strikeouts. Luke Waddell (ATL No. 29) laced a pair of doubles, drove in a run and scored. Seattle’s Cade Marlowe (No. 27) led all players with a three-hit game, and Ji-hwan Bae (PIT No. 22) and Simon Muzziotti (PHI 16) finished with a pair of hits and two RBIs apiece. Surprise 10, Mesa 9
Elijah Dunham collected three hits -- including two doubles – walked, was hit by a pitch, drove in a pair and scored twice. The No. 24 Yankees prospect is batting .389/.522/.694 with a pair of home runs and seven steals in the Fall League. He has reached base in each of his nine starts and done so multiple times in seven of them, walking eight times and striking out just twice in 46 plate appearances. Royals right fielder Seuly Matias put Surprise ahead for good with a three-run homer – his third of the campaign -- that capped a six-run fourth inning. Nats’ 19th-ranked prospect Jackson Cluff notched a pair of hits and two RBIs.

For the Solar Sox, Nelson Velazquez (CHC No. 29) hit his fourth homer for Mesa, a 433-foot solo shot at 110 mph in the sixth. Cubs third baseman Andy Weber added a three-run blast (410 feet, 106 mph) in the ninth as part of a three-hit, four-RBI effort with a walk and two runs scored. More »
