Visalia, CA – The Visalia Rawhide used an eighth-inning homer to pull out a 3-2 win over the Quakes on Sunday afternoon at Valley Strong Ballpark.
Rancho’s loss gives the two teams a split of the six-game home-and-home series, with the Quakes taking two of three at LoanMart Field, before losing two of three in Visalia.
Tied at 2-2 in the eighth, Visalia’s Alexander Benua (2) ripped his second homer this week off Rancho pitching, a solo-shot off Ryan Brown (1-3), as Visalia took the lead for good.
In the ninth, Rawhide reliever Jake Fitzgibbons retired the Quakes in order, earning his fourth save.
Rancho, held to just two infield hits on the day, scored twice in the eighth without the aid of a hit, thanks to a Samuel Munoz sac fly and a wild pitch from eventual winner Alvin Guzman (1-0).
The Quakes (6-9, 47-34) will take Monday off, then return to action on Tuesday, as they open a six-game series at LoanMart Field against the Inland Empire 66ers. Samuel Sanchez (1-1) will take on Francis Texido in the opener at 6:30pm.
