June 10, 2019

LAKELAND, Fla. - Trailing 3-1 going to the seventh, Daytona rallied to tie it and ultimately take the lead for good on an RBI single by LF Drew Mount in the top of the 10th, as the Tortugas leaped past the Lakeland Flying Tigers, 4-3, at Publix Field at Joker Marchant Stadium.

Even at three in the 10th, DH Stuart Fairchild (0-4, R, BB, 2 SO) began the frame at second as the tiebreaking runner. After an infield single by 1B Bruce Yari (1-4, BB, 2 SO), C Hendrik Clementina (0-4) was plunked to load the bases. On an 0-2 pitch, Mount (2-5, R, RBI, 2 SO) slapped a base-hit into left field. Fairchild scored the go-ahead run, while Yari was thrown out at the dish.
With Daytona (33-30) in front 4-3, Lakeland (29-34) put runners on the corners with nobody out thanks to the tiebreaking runner moving to third on an error at first base. CF Brock Deatherage (1-5, R) then laid down a bunt that ended up rolling back to the mound. RHP Ryan Nutof (1.1 IP) fielded and got C Joey Morgan (0-4, 2 SO) in a rundown between third and home. After he was tagged out, Daytona managed to erase LF Reece Hampton (1-2, R, HR, RBI, SO) on a separate rundown between second and third. Nutof then sealed the win by getting SS Brady Policelli (1-5, R, 3B) to line out to center.
Lakeland held a 3-1 advantage before the Tortugas' bats woke up in the seventh. With one away, 2B Dylan Harris (2-5, R, RBI, 2 SO) and CF Lorenzo Cedrola (2-4, 2B, SO) picked up consecutive singles. RF Andy Sugilio (2-5, R, RBI) followed with a run-scoring single to left to pull Daytona within one, 3-2.
An inning later, Mount ignited a rally with a single through the right side. After stealing second base, Harris drove him home with a base-hit to center. The RBI knock from the 24-year-old knotted the game up at three apiece.
Daytona opened the scoring in the top of the first with an RBI double to right by 2B Alejo López (2-5, 2B, RBI, SO). The Flying Tigers tied the contest up at one in the bottom of the inning on an RBI knock to left by 2B Kody Clemens (1-3, 2 RBI, SO).
During the fifth, Lakeland snagged their only lead of the day, 3-1, courtesy of a solo home run to right by Hampton - his first in the Florida State League - and a sacrifice fly to right by Clemens.
Neither starter received a decision on Monday night. RHP Ryan Lillie (6.0 IP, 7 H, 3 R, 3 ER, 3 SO) hurled his sixth quality start in seven outings for Daytona. Lakeland's RHP Tom de Blok (5.2 IP, 4 H, R, ER, 2 BB, 7 SO) yielded only one run in 5.2 innings.
Nutof (1.1 IP) recorded the final four outs for the 'Tugas to collect his fourth win of 2019. RHP Wladimir Pinto (1.0 IP, 2 H, R, 2 SO) suffered his second defeat, allowing the go-ahead run to score in the 10th.
Daytona will try to make it two-in-a-row on Tuesday, as LHP Wennington Romero (0-0, 1.93 ERA) is expected to take the mound. Lakeland is expected to counter with RHP Jesús Rodríguez (2-7, 4.75 ERA).
