MONTGOMERY, Ala. (April 27, 2018) - The Mobile BayBears, the Double-A affiliate of the Los Angeles Angels, plated a pair of runs in the eighth inning but were edged by the Montgomery Biscuits 3-2 Friday afternoon at Riverwalk Stadium.
Brendon Sanger went 3-for-4 and came through with a two-run double in the eighth to get the BayBears (10-11) on the board and cut Montgomery's lead to 3-2. However, Kyle Bird got six straight outs following the two-bagger to earn his second save of the season.
Jose Rodriguez (1-2) gave up just four hits over 5 2/3 innings, but the Biscuits (8-14) scored three runs in the bottom of the second to take an early lead. Brandon Lowe scored on a fielding error, and then Mike Brosseau hit a two-run homer, his first of the year. After Rodriguez departed, Jeremy Rhoades retired all seven batters he faced in relief.
Taylor Ward recorded his team-high ninth multi-hit game, going 2-for-4. He extended his hit streak to eight games and his on-base streak to 11.
Montgomery starter Zach Lee (3-0) pitched six scoreless innings and struck out six batters in the win.
