Modesto, CA. - A trio of homers helped the Modesto Nuts erase a four-run deficit in a 6-4 win against the San Jose Giants on Monday afternoon at Municipal Stadium.
The win gave the Nuts (30-22) a four-game series split with the Giants (22-30).
Early, the Giants struck for three runs in the first when Dillon Dobson laced a three-run, two-out double. In the third, the Giants added an unearned run to take a four-run lead.
That was the last time the Giants would score in the game as the Nuts' bullpen tossed 5 2/3 scoreless innings.
Logan Taylor started the Nuts' comeback with a two-run homer in the fourth. After a Jordan Cowan RBI in the fourth, Taylor launched his second homer of the day in the eighth. It was his third hit and the first multi-homer game by a member of the Nuts this season. With two outs in the eighth, Joe DeCarlo gave the Nuts the lead when he lifted a solo home run just inside the left-field foul pole. The two homers came against Caleb Simpson (L, 0-2) who worked 1 1/3 allowing just those two hits out of the Giants' bullpen.
Joey Strain (W, 2-1) worked the seventh and eighth innings in scoreless fashion. He worked around three hits while striking out three.
Matt Walker (S, 4/6) induced a game-ending double play in the ninth to secure the win.
Anthony Misiewicz started the game for the Nuts and lasted just 3 1/3 allowing four runs on six hits.
After an off day on Tuesday, the Nuts open a four-game series with the Inland Empire 66ers of San Bernardino. Game one is Wednesday night at 7:05 p.m. Coverage on ModestoNuts.com will start at 6:55 p.m. Listen live online on your phone, tablet or PC by CLICKING HERE.
