BILOXI, Miss. (August 23, 2017) - Grayson Long and Alex Klonowski combined to pitch the second shutout of the series for the Mobile BayBears, the Double-A affiliate of the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim, in a 2-0 win over the Biloxi Shuckers Wednesday night at MGM Park.
Long (8-6) tossed seven innings for the second time in his professional career. He held Biloxi (64-61 overall, 28-28 second half) scoreless and struck out seven batters. Long has not allowed an earned run on the road since July 1 at Jacksonville, a total of 28 2/3 straight innings. His 2.62 ERA is now the lowest among qualifiers in the Southern League.
The BayBears (60-67, 30-28) broke a scoreless tie in the top of the sixth. Bo Way hit an RBI single for the second straight game, and he scored an insurance run on a Brennon Lund sacrifice fly in the ninth. Klonowski earned his second save, tossing two scoreless innings to complete the shutout.
Freddy Peralta pitched four scoreless innings for the Shuckers and only allowed four hits in a four-inning start. Luis Ortiz (4-7) took the loss, giving up one run on four hits in three innings of relief.
The BayBears continue the five-game road series against Biloxi Thursday at 6:35 p.m. CT. Right-handed pitcher Jake Jewell (7-8, 4.69 ERA) is scheduled to make the start against righty Jon Perrin (5-2, 3.16 ERA) for the Shuckers.
