Chattanooga, Tenn. - Baseball is as streaky a game as any there is. Nobody knows that better than the Jackson Generals, who dropped their fifth straight contest on Wednesday in a 3-0 shutout loss to the Chattanooga Lookouts (21-13).

Chattanooga, Tenn. - Baseball is as streaky a game as any there is. Nobody knows that better than the Jackson Generals, who dropped their fifth straight contest on Wednesday in a 3-0 shutout loss to the Chattanooga Lookouts (21-13).

The loss ensures that the Generals (19-14)--who held a six-game lead on the Lookouts back on April 24-will trail Chattanooga for the North Division lead irrespective of tomorrow's result in the series finale.
For the fourth consecutive night, the home-standing Lookouts managed to score in the opening frame, as Generals starter Ryan Atkinson (1-3, 4.05 ERA) got bogged down in a 28-pitch frame that featured a walk, an error on a pickoff throw, and a two-out RBI single. The 2-0 lead for the Lookouts proved more than enough, but a lead-off solo home run in the fourth inning from Brian Navarreto gave Chattanooga a little added breathing room. Atkinson allowed 3 runs on 7 hits in four innings, giving way to multi-inning scoreless appearances from both Joel Payamps and Gabe Speier to finish the game.
Much like his first time seeing the Generals in April, Chattanooga's Randy LeBlanc (5-1, 2.23 ERA) scattered six hits through seven innings of work, striking out eight men without allowing a run or a walk. Daniel Robertson and Marcus Littlewood were the only Generals to finish the game with multiple hits. The Generals had only one opportunity with a runner in scoring position all night, and they were unable to convert. The loss is Jackson's 11th in 15 games, lowering their record in May to 2-7.

MOMENTS THAT MATTERED
TOP 8: Marcus Littlewood leads off with a single, as Jackson trails 3-0. Jose Vinicio and Kevin Medrano make outs thereafter, but a single from Daniel Robertson-his third hit of the night-brings Rudy Flores to the plate as the potential tying run. Flores-who has batted .341 with two outs so far this year-is unable to come through, popping out to second base on an 0-1 pitch from Chattanooga's Sam Clay. Rudy's at-bat was the only time in the contest where the Generals had two men on base.
