Lopez, Knights Beat the Clippers 4-1 Thursday

(UPTOWN CHARLOTTE, NC) -- RHP Reynaldo López struck-out 11 batters over 6.2 impressive innings and Nicky Delmonico launched a solo home run to lead the Charlotte Knights to a 4-1 win over the Columbus Clippers on Thursday in the finale of their four-game series. The win was Charlotte's second consecutive and 34th of the season.

Lopez (6-4, 4.22) gave up just one run on six hits en route to his sixth win of the season. The 23-year-old right-hander walked just one batter and set a 2017 season high with 11 strikeouts. He pitched into the seventh inning and finished the night with 102 pitches (71 for strikes). LHP Matt Purke got the final out in the seventh inning and then pitched a scoreless eighth inning for his seventh hold of the season. RHP Zack Burdi allowed just one hit and fanned one batter in the ninth inning to notch his team-high seventh save of the season.

The Knights jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the second inning thanks to a sacrifice-fly RBI by Grant Green. One inning later, the Knights tacked on two more runs thanks to an RBI single by Cody Asche and an RBI by Rymer Liriano.

Two innings later, Delmonico launched his 11th home run of the season to push the Knights to a 4-1 lead. Delmonico finished the night going 3-for-4 with the home run and two runs scored. Liriano added two hits and an RBI to help the Knights win their second straight game and split the four-game series with the Clippers.

Columbus RHP Nick Pasquale (0-1, 0.00) was saddled with the loss after he gave up three unearned runs. He made two key throwing errors on the night.

The Knights will now open a four-game series against the Gwinnett Braves from BB&T Ballpark on Friday. Gates open at 6:00 p.m. and the Knights will light-up the Uptown Charlotte skyline with post-game fireworks courtesy of BB&T & News Talk 1110 WBT.
