Fresno, CA (Saturday, July 27) - The Fresno Grizzlies (53-53) transformed into "Lowriders de Fresno" for the third time this season Saturday night, the second Lowriders Weekend of 2019, Fresno's entry in Minor League Baseball's "Copa de la Diversion" (Fun Cup). The visiting Reno Aces (47-59) won 8-6, and Fresno will look to avoid a three-game sweep on Sunday. The game was not without its excitement, as the clubs combined to launch seven home runs.
The Aces raced out to a 4-0 lead in the second inning thanks to a three-run Carlos Asuaje homer, and led 6-3 after three with a two-run shot by Travis Snider, his second home run in as many nights.
In the home half of the second, Fresno hit back-to-back homers for the fourth time this season, a two-run shot from Raudy Read (15 HR), followed by Chuck Taylor's first with Fresno. José Marmolejos (15 HR) and Brandon Snyder (25 HR) rounded out the homering in the eighth, hitting back-to-back solo shots off the videoboard in left-center; the second time in three days those two homered in the same inning. For Snyder, it was his 10th home run in 17 starts, a surge that now has him leading the club by five homers while extending his career-high (hit 23 for Triple-A Syracuse in 2017). Read homered for a second consecutive game. Marmolejos's dinger was his second in three nights.
Reno's Ben Lively (6-2) picked up a winning decision with a workman-like effort, allowing three earned runs on five hits and two walks over five innings. The right-hander struck out three.
Fresno's rally was squelched in the ninth after Snyder's RBI double into the left field corner made it a two-run game, before the Lowriders ultimately stranded runners at second and third to end it. Snyder's night included two doubles along with the homer.
