Bichette, Guerrero, Maese, Encina named MWL All-Stars

SOUTH BEND, Ind. - Four members of the Lansing Lugnuts were named to the Midwest League Eastern Division All-Star Team, the league announced Wednesday.19-year-old Bo Bichette  will start at shortstop and 18-year-old Vladimir Guerrero, Jr. will start at third base for the Eastern Division, joining pitchers Justin Maese  and Geno Encina at Dow Diamond in Midland, Mich.,

SOUTH BEND, Ind. - Four members of the Lansing Lugnuts were named to the Midwest League Eastern Division All-Star Team, the league announced Wednesday.

19-year-old Bo Bichette  will start at shortstop and 18-year-old Vladimir Guerrero, Jr. will start at third base for the Eastern Division, joining pitchers Justin Maese  and Geno Encina at Dow Diamond in Midland, Mich., on Tuesday, June 20th.

Bichette, MLB Pipeline and Baseball America's consensus No. 9 Blue Jays prospect, ranks first in the MWL in base hits (115), batting average (.382), slugging (.618) and OPS (1.073), tying for first in total bases (29). He is in the midst of his second 15-game hitting streak of the year, and has hit safely in 41 of 46 games played.

Guerrero, MLB Pipeline and Baseball America's consensus No. 1 Blue Jays prospect, has the league's third-highest on-base percentage (.422) and fourth-highest batting average (.332), reaching base in 46 of 49 games.

Maese, 20, MLB Pipeline's No. 10 Blue Jays prospect, is the only pitcher in professional baseball, Major League or Minor League, who has thrown three complete games this season. His five wins and 54 strikeouts lead the Lugnuts and his 63 2/3 innings pitched tie him for third-most in the league.

Encina, 22, put together a stretch of 30 consecutive innings without allowing an earned run, spanning 11 appearances and dating from August 11, 2016, through April 28, 2017. In 36 total innings, Encina has recorded a 2.75 ERA with 34 strikeouts compared to 12 walks.

The 31-24 Lugnuts host the 36-21 Dayton Dragons tonight in the second-game of a three-game series, a Winning Wednesday at Cooley Law School Stadium with first pitch set for 7:05 p.m. Following tonight, only four more home games remain before the All-Star Break.
