MIDLAND - Jesus Luzardo tossed five one-hit shutout innings Thursday night, leading Midland to a 3-1 triumph in the series opener at Security Bank Ballpark.
Luzardo, who started the Futures Game for the World squad on Sunday at Nationals Park in Washington, D.C., faced one over the minimum Thursday vs. Corpus Christi. The 20-year-old lefty fanned seven and issued one free pass, throwing 42 of 68 pitches for strikes.

Luzardo (7-3) has not allowed a run in his last five Texas League outings, spanning 26 innings.
Midland (8-19, 41-55) rolled a pair in the first against Hector Perez (0-1). Eli White opened with a double and Nate Mondou worked a walk. Three batters later, Tyler Ramirez dumped a broken-bat two-out, two-run single into shallow center.
In the third, Tyler Marincov reached on an infield single and raced to third on Ramirez's two-bagger to left center. Jonah Heim cashed in with an RBI base hit past a drawn-in Randy César at first base.
Cesar scored the lone Corpus Christi (18-9, 61-35) run of the game, via a two-out walk in the seventh. Alex De Goti drove him in with a single down the right-field line.
De Goti has seven hits in his last 11 at-bats.
Hooks lefty Brett Adcock excelled in his Double-A debut, retiring nine of the 10 men he faced while striking out the last four.
Going back to his Carolina League tenure, Adcock has not permitted a run in his last 16 frames.
Nolan Blackwood sidestepped a Carmen Benedetti single in the eighth and Kyle Finnegan spun a 1-2-3 ninth for his third save.
Lefty Ryan Hartman (8-2, 2.91) will aim to square the series for Corpus Christi Friday night. The RockHounds have announced Norge Ruiz (3-6, 4.61) as their starting pitcher. First pitch is scheduled for 7 p.m.
