MOBILE, Ala. (August 8, 2019) - Greg Mahle pitched a complete-game shutout to lead the Mobile BayBears, the Double-A affiliate of the Los Angeles Angels, to a 6-0 victory over the Pensacola Blue Wahoos Thursday night at Hank Aaron Stadium.
Mahle (1-2) gave up five hits, did not issue any walks, and struck out five batters on 96 pitches, 71 strikes. He retired 16 consecutive hitters from the third to the eighth. Mahle's previous career-high was 5 2/3 innings pitched. It was the first nine-inning complete game for the BayBears since Josh Taylor shut out Pensacola on July 5, 2016.
Brandon Marsh drove in two runs with a double in the bottom of the second to get the BayBears (43-71 overall, 16-30 second half) on the board and open the scoring in a three-run inning against Bryan Sammons (4-5). Jordan Zimmerman added his first Double-A home run to lead off the third. Mobile has tallied 11 unanswered runs over the past two games, holding Pensacola (61-55, 23-23) scoreless for 17 consecutive frames.
Twins top pitching prospect Brusdar Graterol retired five of six batters and recorded three strikeouts in his first appearance since returning from Pensacola's injured list.
