NORTH AUGUSTA, S.C.- The New York Yankees have announced that Major League reliever Tommy Kahnle will make a rehab start for the Charleston RiverDogs on the road on Monday night at SRP Park.
Kahnle, 28, returns to the RiverDogs on rehab assignment after spending the entirety of the 2011 campaign with Charleston, going 3-5 with a 4.22 ERA in 40 appearances while leading all RiverDogs relievers with 112 strikeouts over the span of 81 innings pitched in the SAL.
2017 was Kahnle's best year to date in The Show. The hard-throwing righty ranked eighth among relievers with a 13.79 strikeout per nine innings mark while posting a 2.59 ERA in 69 appearances combined between the White Sox and Yankees. He was returned to the organization that drafted him in the deal that also netted the Yankees infielder Todd Frazier and RHP David Robertson in exchange for four players, including a then-Charleston RiverDog outfielder, Blake Rutherford. Kahnle recorded four multi-inning scoreless outings for the Yankees during their postseason run.

The Latham, N.Y. native made his MLB debut in 2013 with the Rockies after being taken in the Rule 5 draft. After two more years with Colorado, he was traded the White Sox in the offseason following 2015 and enjoyed five stints at the big-league level on the South Side a year later, going 0-1 with a 2.63 ERA.
Kahnle logged 7 1/3 innings out of the Yankee pen to start the 2018 campaign before he was placed on the 10-day disabled list with right shoulder tendonitis. Monday's start in North Augusta will be his first rehab assignment since being placed on the DL.
With Kahnle on the hill, the RiverDogs (19-23) start an eight-game road trip in brand-new SRP Park, taking on the Augusta GreenJackets at 7:05 p.m. on Monday night. Lefty Dalton Lehnen (2-3, 3.03), Charleston's originally scheduled starter, will appear in relief following Kahnle's stint. The game will be broadcast on WTMA 1250 AM and online streaming at riverdogs.com and the RiverDogs TuneIn radio station.
RiverDogs single-game tickets are now available for the 2018 campaign, the club's 25th season as the RiverDogs and their "175th season in dog years." Ticket information can be secured by contacting the box office at (843) 577-DOGS (3647) or online at www.riverdogs.com/tickets.
