MIDLAND - Tyler Marincov hit three home runs and drove in five Wednesday afternoon as the RockHounds churned toward a 12-3 victory over Corpus Christi at Security Bank Ballpark.
Midland (13-13) has won the first two games in this series, scoring 18 total runs on 29 hits and 13 walks.
Each man in the home lineup recorded a knock Wednesday, and all but one scored, as part of a 14-hit attack. Hooks pitchers kept the RockHounds at bay twice, the fifth and a 1-2-3 seventh.
Brock Dykxhoorn issued a four-pitch walk to Brett Vertigan to begin the Midland first. One out later, B.J. Boyd ripped an RBI double over the head of centerfielder Alejandro Garcia. With two away in the inning, Viosergy Rosa sent a 1-0 pitch over the right-field fence for a 3-0 Hounds edge.
Rosa has recorded three of his five home runs and nine of his 16 RBIs against Corpus Christi (15-11).
Argenis Raga belted a two-run shot in the second, putting the Hooks in an early 5-0 hole.
Jon Singleton reduced the deficit in the third with a three-run home run to right field off James Naile.
Midland answered with two more tallies against Dykxhoorn (0-2) in the home half.
Marincov's first dinger was a three-run clout off Michael Freeman in the fourth. He added solo shots in the sixth and eighth at the expense of Jacob Dorris.
Marincov is the fifth player to hit three home runs in a game against the Hooks in their 13-year tenure. He is the second RockHound as Anthony Aliotti turned the trick in May of 2013 at Security Bank Ballpark.
Following Naile's exit with two outs in the third, Sam Bragg retired all four batters he faced. Grant Holmes (2-1) earned the victory by tossing four shutout frames. Holmes walked one and struck out six. Lou Trivino handled the ninth.
Corpus Christi managed only one hit past the third, a two-out single by Jamie Ritchie in the eighth.
Cy Sneed (1-1) takes the ball for the Hooks Thursday night. Midland counters with the tandem of Heath Fillmyer (0-2) and Joel Seddon (2-1). First pitch 7 p.m.
