PENSACOLA, FL – The Miami Marlins announced on Friday their 2026 Minor League organizational awards, with outfielder Cam Cannarella named Minor League Player of the Year, right-handed pitcher Eliazar Dishmey named Minor League Pitcher of the Year, outfielder Brandon Compton named Double-A MVP and infielder Juan Matheus named Student of the Year.
Cannarella, 23, joined the Blue Wahoos on June 2 after beginning the season with High-A Beloit. In 34 games at Double-A, Cannarella batted .344 with 9 home runs, 23 RBI and a 1.060 OPS. He earned Southern League Player of the Week honors on June 21, and over a 10-game stretch from June 19-30, he batted .385 with 6 home runs, 17 RBI, and a 1.366 OPS. He continued to excel after being promoted to Triple-A Jacksonville at the All-Star break, batting .282 with an .813 OPS in 45 games for the Jumbo Shrimp. He is currently rated the #6 prospect in the Marlins organization, per MLB Pipeline.
Dishmey, 21, joined the Blue Wahoos on May 26 and made 16 regular season starts, going 4-1 with a 3.30 ERA. He struck out 92 batters over 71.0 innings, held opponents to a .183 average, and twice won Southern League Pitcher of the Week honors with no-hit bids on July 5 and August 6. In five July starts, he was 2-0 with a 0.42 ERA, allowing just one run on 10 hits over 21.1 innings. He is currently rated the #30 prospect in the Marlins organization, per MLB Pipeline, and on Monday was recognized as both a Southern League All-Star and the Southern League Pitcher of the Year.
Compton, 22, joined the Blue Wahoos on June 30 after beginning the season with High-A Beloit. Despite playing in only 50 Double-A games, he led the Blue Wahoos in home runs (21) and RBI (54) while batting .332 with an 1.180 OPS. He set monthly Blue Wahoos franchise records by hitting 12 home runs in July and 13 doubles in August before a September promotion to Triple-A Jacksonville. His 36 total home runs between Beloit, Pensacola and Jacksonville were tied for the fifth-most for a Marlins minor leaguer in the history of the organization dating to 1992. He is currently rated the #13 prospect in the Marlins organization, per MLB Pipeline.
Matheus, 22, played in 78 games for the Blue Wahoos while ascending from High-A to Triple-A over the course of the 2026 season. A native of Lara, Venezuela acquired in an offseason trade from the New York Yankees organization, he was recognized for his progress in the Marlins’ player education program. He is currently rated the #23 prospect in the Marlins organization, per MLB Pipeline.
The Blue Wahoos begin their 2027 season on Friday, April 2 on the road against the Biloxi Shuckers. Their 2027 home opener is scheduled for Tuesday, April 6 at Blue Wahoos Stadium against the Birmingham Barons.
