PORTLAND, ME - The Eastern League is pleased to announce the winners of the Eastern League Player of the Week Award and Eastern League Pitcher of the Week Award for the period of August 21st through August 27th.

Harrisburg Senators outfielder/first baseman José Marmolejos has been selected as the Eastern League Player of the Week for the period of August 21st-August 27th. The 24-year old batted .462 (12-for-26) with three doubles, one triple, two home runs, nine RBIs, eight runs scored, four walks, and a .885 slugging percentage in seven games for the Senators last week. Marmolejos, who is a native of Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic, had at least one hit in all seven games he played in last week and collected multiple hits in three of those games, including going 3-for-5 with a home run, a triple, and three runs scored in a 7-6 win at Akron on Tuesday night. The 6'1", 185 lb. slugger led all Eastern League players in RBIs (9), runs scored (8), and total bases (23) last week and tied for the league lead in hits (12) and extra-base hits (6). He also finished ranked among the weekly league leaders in batting average (.462-2nd), slugging percentage (.885-2nd), OPS (1.401-2nd), home runs (2-tied 2nd), on-base percentage (.516-3rd), triples (1-tied 4th), doubles (3-tied 5th), and walks (4-tied 6th). Jose, who is hitting .288 with 14 home runs, 65 runs scored, and 60 RBIs in 99 games for the Senators this season, was signed by the Washington Nationals as a non-drafted free agent on June 15, 2011.

David Hess, a right-handed starting pitcher for the Bowie Baysox, has been selected as the Eastern League Pitcher of the Week for the period of August 21st-August 27th. The 6'2", 275 lb. hurler started one game for the Baysox last week and had a record of 1-0 with five strikeouts and a 0.00 ERA. Hess, who is a native of Tullahoma, Tennessee, made his lone start of the week on Friday night at Altoona and fired eight shutout innings to lead the Baysox to a 2-0 victory. Hess gave up one hit and one walk while striking out five batters over a career-high eight innings of work. With his performance last week David improved his record to 11-8 and he is now tied for second in the league in wins and strikeouts (116). He also leads the league in innings pitched (147.1) and is ranked fourth in batting average against (.239). The 24-year led all Eastern League pitchers in WHIP (0.25) and batting average against (.038) last week and tied for the league lead in ERA (0.00). He also tied for third in the league in wins (1). David, who also won the Pitcher of the Week award earlier this season for the period of June 26th-July 2nd, was selected by the Baltimore Orioles in the fifth round of the 2014 draft after going 9-3 with 104 strikeouts and a 3.24 ERA as a junior at Tennessee Tech.
