PORTLAND, ME - The Eastern League is pleased to announce the winners of the Eastern League Player of the Week Award and Eastern League Pitcher of the Week Award for the period of May 7th through May 13th.

Altoona Curve outfielder Jason Martin has been selected as the Eastern League Player of the Week for the period of May 7th-May 13th. The 22-year old hit .522 (12-for-23) with one double, two home runs, eight RBIs, seven runs scored, one stolen base, two walks, and a .826 slugging percentage in six games last week. Martin, who is a native of Corona, California, reached base at least once in all six games he played in last week and had multiple hits in five of those games, including going 3-for-4 with a homer and four RBIs in a 7-1 win at Reading on Sunday afternoon. The 5'10", 185 lb. slugger led all Eastern League hitters in batting average (.522) and OPS (1.403) last week and also ranked among the weekly league leaders in on-base percentage (.577-2nd), slugging percentage (.825-2nd), hits (12-tied 2nd), runs scored (7-tied 3rd), total bases (19-tied 3rd), home runs (2-tied 3rd), and RBIs (8-tied 3rd). Jason, who is rated by MLB.com as the 21st best prospect in the Pittsburgh organization, was acquired by the Pittsburgh Pirates in a trade from the Houston Astros for Gerrit Cole on January 13, 2018. He was originally selected by Houston in the eighth round of the 2013 draft out of Orange Lutheran High School in California.

Spencer Turnbull, a right-handed starting pitcher for the Erie SeaWolves, has been selected as the Eastern League Pitcher of the Week for the period of May 7th-May 13th. The 6'3", 215 lb. hurler started a pair of games for the SeaWolves last week and had a record of 2-0 with 12 strikeouts and a 0.00 ERA. Turnbull, who is a native of Demopolis, Alabama, made his first start of the week on Tuesday against the visiting Harrisburg Senators and threw six shutout innings in Erie's 3-0 victory. He gave up just two hits and two walks while striking out six batters to earn his first career Double-A victory. Spencer made his second appearance of the week on Sunday at Akron and fired five shutout innings for Erie in a 2-0 win. He struck out six batters and walked two while giving up three hits to earn his second win of the week. The 25-year old tied for the league lead in wins (2) and ERA (0.00) last week and also ranked among the weekly leaders in strikeouts (12-2nd), innings pitched (11.0-tied 6th), and batting average against (.135-7th). Spencer, who is rated by MLB.com as the 30th best prospect in the Detroit organization, was selected by the Detroit Tigers in the second round of the 2014 draft after putting together a record of 5-7 with a 2.22 ERA in 15 starts as a junior at the University of Alabama.
