CLEARWATER, Fla. – The Clearwater Threshers won both ends of a doubleheader against the Tampa Tarpons on Wednesday night at BayCare Ballpark. Casey Martin hit two home runs, one at each end of the twin bill. On the night, Martin went three-for-nine with two home runs and a stolen base.

GAME 1 BOX SCORE

Matt Joyce made a rehab appearance in game 1 and scored the first run of the ballgame. He finished one-for-one with an RBI single and one walk.

2021 Phillies’ second-round draft pick Ethan Wilson knocked a two-run triple, and fellow 2021 draftee T.J. Rumfield followed with an RBI double to total a four-run first inning for the Threshers.

Martin’s first home run of the night was a grand slam in the second inning of the first game that extended the Threshers’ lead to 8-0.

Clearwater put up four runs in the bottom of the fourth inning to extend the lead to 12-0. The Tarpons battled back and cut the deficit in half in the top of the sixth, but after an insurance run in the bottom of the sixth inning off the bat of Luis Garcia, the Threshers came out on top 13-6.

Vince Velazquez was credited with the win during his rehab appearance with the Threshers. He allowed two runs on two hits and struck out two batters in two innings on the mound.

Alexander McKenney pitched 2.2 scoreless innings, allowed two hits, walked two, and struck out one batter in his first start as a Thresher.

GAME 2 BOX SCORE

The Threshers came from behind to win game two; a make-up of a postponed game acquired from a road series in Tampa. Down 4-0 after one inning, 2021 draftee Jared Carr blasted a solo home run to put the Threshers on the board.

In the top of the sixth inning, Luis Garcia rocketed a two-run triple into the right field corner and Casey Martin cleared the bases with a two-run home run that pushed the Threshers ahead 5-4. Garcia put an exclamation mark on the victory with a solo shot in the seventh inning to propel Clearwater ahead 6-4.
