JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - Jacksonville Jumbo Shrimp right-hander Max Duval allowed two runs in five innings and struck out six batters to earn his first Double-A win in a 5-3 victory - Jacksonville's third straight over the Pensacola Blue Wahoos - in front of 2,949 at Monday's Business Person Special presented


JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - Jacksonville Jumbo Shrimp right-hander Max Duval allowed two runs in five innings and struck out six batters to earn his first Double-A win in a 5-3 victory - Jacksonville's third straight over the Pensacola Blue Wahoos - in front of 2,949 at Monday's Business Person Special presented by Yuengling at the Baseball Grounds of Jacksonville.

After Duval, a native of San Luis Obispo, California, pitched a perfect top of the first inning, the Jumbo Shrimp (12-12) tallied a run off Blue Wahoos right-hander Wyatt Strahan (3-2). Center fielder Monte Harrison lined a one-out double to left field, right fielder John Norwood walked, and first baseman Eric Jagielo grounded an RBI single to center field. In the bottom of the second inning, third baseman Brian Schales walked, went to second base on catcher Rodrigo Vigil's sacrifice bunt, and scored on shortstop Mason Davis's RBI double down the first-base line to make it 2-0.

The Blue Wahoos (10-15) scored their two runs off Duval to tie the game in the third inning. Shortstop Luis Gonzalez hit a leadoff home run to right field. Second baseman Shed Long reached on Davis's one-out error, stole second base and went to third base on Vigil's errant throw, before center fielder Gabriel Guerrero hit a game-tying sacrifice fly.

Jacksonville took the lead for good in the bottom of the third inning. Harrison led off with an infield single - his second of a game-high three hits - and scored on a one-out double to right field by Jagielo, who later scored on a wild pitch. Davis added his second RBI double in the sixth inning off left-hander Seth Varner to extend the lead to 5-2.

Duval kept the lead by leaving the bases loaded in the fourth inning and pitching a perfect fifth inning. He allowed one earned run on three hits and three walks. Right-hander Esmerling De La Rosa (one inning), left-hander Jeff Kinley (1 1/3 innings, one unearned run), right-hander Jose Pena (two-thirds of an inning) and left-hander José Quijada (one inning for his second save) combined to finish the 5-3 win. Jacksonville next faces first-place Biloxi (15-10) after Tuesday's off day.
