DES MOINES, IA – The Iowa Cubs (11-12) dropped a game below .500 for the first time since April 14, falling by a score of 3-1 to the Indianapolis Indians (13-10), Sunday at Principal Park.

On the third pitch of the game, Ji-Hwan Bae hit a solo home run to give Indianapolis an early 1-0 lead. They added a second run in the second inning on a two-out throwing error by Iowa. The game stayed 2-0 until the bottom of the third, when Dixon Machado brought in a run on an RBI groundout.

A double and fielding error in the fourth allowed a third run for Indy, extending their lead back to two. From there, the scoring came to a halt, as the teams stayed locked at 3-1. Cam Vieaux and Hunter Stratton allowed just two hits while striking out seven over their 4.1 scoreless innings.

Iowa’s bullpen did their part as well, with Brandon Hughes and Erich Uelmen each throwing two scoreless frames. Hughes allowed one hit and struck out two, while Uelmen surrendered two hits and sent one batter down on strikes.

With Iowa down to their final three outs and still trailing by two, Yerry De Los Santos struck out the side to end the game and give Indy a 4-2 series win.
