Portland, Maine- Kevin McAvoy worked 7.1 innings of one-run baseball and Bobby Poyner closed things out with the tying run in scoring position in the ninth as the Sea Dogs (60-68) ended a seven-game losing streak with a 2-1 win over the Binghamton Rumble Ponies (76-52) in front of 7,128 fans at Hadlock Field on Thursday night.

McAvoy (6-7) allowed just one unearned run on six hits in 7.1 innings. He fanned five and walked four.

Poyner entered the game in a critical moment with two on and one out in the eighth inning. After a fly out and a walk to load the bases, Poyner struck out Gustavo Nunez to strand all three men and preserve the one-run lead.

In the ninth, Poyner allowed a leadoff double to LJ Mazzilli, but rallied to strike out the next three batters to end the game.

Binghamton stranded 10 runners and went 0-for-10 with runners in scoring position.

With the game scoreless in the bottom of the fifth, Marcos Molina (2-7) recorded two quick outs before walking Jordan Procyshen and Danny Mars back-to-back. Josh Tobias hit a double to the gap in left-center field to score both runners and give the Sea Dogs a 2-0 lead.

Binghamton answered with an unearned run in the top of the sixth on a two-out throwing error by Chad De La Guerra on a play at first base that allowed Patrick Biondi to score from second.
