PORTLAND, ME - The Eastern League is pleased to announce the winners of the Eastern League Player of the Week Award and Eastern League Pitcher of the Week Award for the period of June 12th through June 18th.

Trenton Thunder outfielder Billy McKinney has been selected as the Eastern League Player of the Week for the period of June 12th-June 18th. The 22-year old batted .385 (10-for-26) with three doubles, three home runs, seven RBIs, seven runs scored, one stolen base, two walks, and a .846 slugging percentage in eight games last week. McKinney, who is a native of Dallas, Texas, had at least one hit in seven of the games he played in last week and had multiple hits in three of those games, including going 2-for-3 with a home run, two RBIs, and two runs scored in a 4-2 win over Erie on Sunday. The 6'1", 205 lb. slugger led all Eastern League players in runs scored (7), total bases (22), and extra-base hits (6) last week and tied for the league lead in RBIs (7) and home runs (3). He also finished ranked among the weekly leaders in doubles (3-tied 2nd), slugging percentage (.846-3rd), OPS (1.275-3rd), hits (10-tied 3rd), and stolen bases (1-tied 10th). Billy was acquired by the New York Yankees in a trade from the Chicago Cubs on July 25, 2016. He was acquired by the Cubs in a trade from Oakland on July 5, 2014 after originally being selected by the Athletics with the 24th overall pick in the first round of the 2013 draft out of Plano West High School in Texas.

Justus Sheffield, a left-handed starting pitcher for the Trenton Thunder, has been selected as the Eastern League Pitcher of the Week for the period of June 12th-June 18th. The 5'11", 200 lb. hurler started a pair of games for the Thunder last week and had a record of 2-0 with 11 strikeouts and a 0.69 ERA. Sheffield, who is a native of Tullahoma, Tennessee, made his first start of the week on Tuesday at Hartford and gave up one run over six innings to earn the win in Trenton's 8-1 victory. He struck out eight batters and walked two while scattering five hits. Justus made his second start on Sunday in the opener of a doubleheader against the visiting Erie SeaWolves and fired a three-hitter in Trenton's 6-0 victory. He struck out three batters and walked one while improving his record to 6-4 and lowering his ERA to 2.99. The 21-year old threw the only shutout by an Eastern League pitcher last week and also ranked among the weekly leaders in wins (2-tied 1st), complete games (1-tied 1st), innings pitched (13.0-tied 2nd), and strikeouts (11-3rd). Justus, who also won this award earlier this year for the period of May 22nd-May 28th, was acquired by the New York Yankees in a trade from Cleveland on July 31, 2016 after originally being selected by the Indians with the 31st overall pick of the 2014 draft.
