Portland, Maine – The Portland Sea Dogs (36-32)(71-65) held on to a 1-0 shutout victory over the Binghamton Rumble Ponies (34-34)(61-76) on Saturday night, their third straight win in front of their 25th sellout crowd of the season.
RHP Morgan McSweeney had a career performance, dealing seven shutout innings, a career high, with five strikeouts. He dealt 84 pitches, 57 for strikes, allowing just four hits, all singles. Will Turner led off the game with a home run on the first pitch he saw. Neither team scored the rest of the night.
Johanfran Garcia caught two would-be base stealers at second base. Justin Gonzales had the play of the night, throwing out Mitch Voit at third with a dart from deep right field, showing off his exceptional arm.
Steven Brooks replaced McSweeney in the eighth. He struck out the side in order, before retiring the side in order in the ninth to close out two perfect innings with four strikeouts.
RHP Morgan McSweeney (2-1, 5.55 ERA) deservedly earned the win. RHP Gabe Davis (1-1, 2.53 ERA) shouldered the loss, allowing the solo home run to Turner in addition to four hits and one walk with three strikeouts in 4.2 innings pitched. RHP Steven Brooks (S, 2) earned the save.
