Jackson, Tenn. - Kevin Medrano was honored as Minor League Player of the Month by the Arizona Diamondbacks, as the organization announced its June honorees Sunday. The infielder put together a stellar month, earning himself a promotion to Triple-A for the first time. Reliever Jared Miller allowed just one run in June, earning Pitcher of the Month honors for Jackson.

Medrano, 27, was sensational from start to finish with the Generals in June. He led the Southern League with a .371 average and 36 hits over 25 games in the month. The infielder had two home runs, nine doubles and 16 RBI in the month while posting a .939 OPS.
He hit in 16-straight games from June 4 to June 22, giving him the longest hitting streak in the circuit this season. He hit .444 (28-for-63) over the streak. He went 5-for-6 June 17 in Birmingham, becoming the first General with a five-hit game since 2015. He is one of just four players in the Southern League with five hits in a game this season.
The Diamondbacks took Medrano with an 18th round pick in 2012 out of Missouri State. He was rewarded for his play in Jackson with a promotion to Triple-A Reno June 30. It's the first time that Medrano has made it to Triple-A in his six-year professional career.
Miller, 23, was one of the best relievers in the league over 10 appearances. He allowed just one run in 13.2 innings of work, good for a 0.66 ERA in June. The 6'7" lefty struck out 14 and walked just four while holding opponents to a .163 average. He pitched two innings in five of his 10 June outings.
Arizona drafted Miller with its 11th round pick out of Vanderbilt in 2014. This is his second season pitching primarily in relief, and his fourth as a professional overall. Baseball America ranked him the organization's 19th-best prospect before 2017 began.
Medrano was named the organization's overall Player of the Month, while Reno's Jimmy Sherfy was selected as the Pitcher of the Month for June. In the Southern League, Gabriel Moya was honored as the BC Powder Relief Pitcher of the Month.
Every month during the season, the D-backs Player Development staff chooses the player and pitcher most deserving of the honors based on nominations from coaches at each affiliate along with input from the Minor League coordinators.
