This week Volcanoes Watching asked to interview the Walker family about baseball business and some players who remain the face of the Salem-Keizer Volcanoes brand.
Q: Jerry Walker: What is the most challenging and exciting part of owning of professional baseball team?
A: One of the most challenging parts is what I call keeping "top of mind awareness". The Volcanoes play only 2.5 months each summer, a very short window of opportunity for fans to see the team. We constantly hear about fans wanting to come to Volcanoes Stadium but just not thinking about it - at the right time.
The most exciting part for us is each new season: watching the promotions develop and the fans' enthusiasm for the players and coming to Volcanoes Stadium in record numbers. It is very gratifying.
Q: Lisa Walker: The Volcanoes go the extra mile to support local businesses; why is this important to you and the ownership group?
A: Our sponsors look for a positive association and results that are mutually beneficial. Local businesses attract local fans and that is who we both want to be in front of. The Volcanoes are thrilled to promote our friendship with hometown businesses as we both prosper and provide a greater quality of life for fans.
Q: Mickey Walker: who are your three to five all-time favorite Salem-Keizer Volcanoes players?
A:
Buster Posey and
