IronPigs' infielder Joey Meneses has been named International League Batter of the Week, as announced by league officials today. The first baseman, who turned 26 on Sunday, becomes the first Lehigh Valley player to earn weekly honors this season and the first batter to earn selection since outfielder Nick Williams on May 29, 2017.

For the week of April 30 through May 6, Meneses batted an IL-best .520 (13-for-25) with two home runs, eight RBI and three walks while also leading the league in extra-base hits (7), total bases (24), slugging percentage (.960) and OPS (1.531). In addition, the native of Culiacan, Mexico, ranked tied for first in hits (13) and doubles (5), second in on-base percentage (.571), tied for second in RBI and tied for third in runs scored (6). In seven games played, Meneses logged five multi-hit efforts.
On May 2, the former Atlanta prospect went back-to-back with Dylan Cozens in the second inning off Syracuse pitcher Erick Fedde for the first home run of his Triple-A career. The next day, he hit a game-winning, three-run shot in Rochester off Aaron Slegers.

Meneses, who was signed by the Phillies as a minor league free agent in January, currently ranks third in the IL with a .360 batting average over his 23 games played this season. A career .275 batter, Meneses had never played at the Triple-A level prior to starting 2018 with Lehigh Valley.
There have been just nine other Pigs to earn this honor: Andy Tracy (3x: 6/30/08, 8/11/08, 6/22/09), Michael Taylor (8/17/09), John Mayberry (4/19/10), Jeff Larish (6/6/10), John Suomi (6/5/12), César Hernández (7/9/13), Brian Bogusevic (5/11/15), Dylan Cozens (5/15/17) and Nick Williams (5/29/18).

You can see Meneses, and the rest of the IronPigs, all week at Coca-Cola Park as the team opens a seven-game homestand tonight. Tickets for these contests, and any game on our 2018 schedule, are available online, by phone (610) 841-PIGS (7447) or at the Coca-Cola Park ticket windows during regular business hours.
