Mets blast Threshers, 12-7

CLEARWATER, Fla. (August 14, 2017) - The St. Lucie Mets slugged their way to a 12-7 victory over the Clearwater Threshers on Monday at Spectrum Field.
 
The win snapped the Mets four-game losing streak and spiraled the Threshers to an eighth straight loss.
 
The Mets reached base 29 times on Monday (18 hits, 10 walks, one hit batter). Every player had a least one hit and reached base multiple times. Jeff McNeil led the way with a 4 for 6 effort. He drove in two runs and scored two runs.
 
Michael Paez added three hits. John Mora, Anthony Dimino, Wuilmer Becerra and Peter Alonso had two hits apiece. Alonso crushed his 16th home run of the season, bringing him into a first place tie in the FSL.
 
Not to be lost in the offense outburst was the start made by Andrew Church. He pitched six smooth innings, allowing just one run on a solo home run by Wilson Garcia when the Mets already built a huge lead.
 
Church scattered six hits, did not walk a batter and struck out five to pick up his team-leading ninth win.
 
The Mets essentially put the game away in the fourth inning when they scored eight runs, collected six hits and sent 13 batters to the plate. McNeil and Tim Tebow each hit two-run singles with two outs in the frame.
 
Tebow went 1 for 4 with two walks, two RBI and a run scored on his 30th birthday.
 
The Threshers scored six runs in the span of six batters in the eighth to cut a 12-1 deficit to 12-7. The big blow was a three-run homer from Jose Pujols off of Craig Missigman. However, Johnny Magliozzi came on from the bullpen and retired five straight Threshers to end the ballgame.
 
Clearwater used six pitchers in the game. Starter Seranthony Domínguez was thumped for nine hits and six runs over 4.2 innings.
 
The Mets (54-65, 21-30) and Threshers (61-60, 23-28) continue their series at Spectrum Field on Tuesday. First pitch is set for 7 p.m.
