Left-hander Tommy Milone boasted 2-0 record a 0.00 ERA over back-to-back starts on April 30 and May 5, earning PCL Pitcher of the Week honors, the league announced on Monday.
Milone recorded his second career complete-game shutout last Tuesday at Salt Lake, going all six innings with no runs and three hits allowed before the final three innings were cancelled due to inclement weather. Milone struck out five in the 2-0 victory.
On Sunday, the Rainiers hosted Albuquerque and Milone topped his previous performance, going 7 2/3 shutout innings with a season-high 10 strikeouts in a 7-0 Tacoma shutout. The southpaw allowed three hits and surrendered one free pass, the final batter he faced, before Parker Markel earned the final four outs of the game.
Milone, a native of Saugus, California, was originally drafted by the Washington Nationals in the 10th round of the 2008 First-Year Player Draft out of the University of Southern California. This is his first year with the Seattle organization, after previous stints with Washington, Oakland, Minnesota, and New York (NL). Milone has claimed four previous Pitcher of the Week awards in MiLB, most recently while a member of the Rochester Red Wings in May 2015.
Round Rock Express outfielder Yordan Alvarez earned PCL Player of the Week honors after leading all PCL hitters with a .591 average and drove in eight runs over six games last week.
