JUPITER, Fla. (June 3, 2017) - The Palm Beach Cardinals (33-21) used five runs in the second inning to defeat the Fort Myers Miracle (26-30) 8-1 on Saturday night and win their 16th game in their last 18 tries.
After an hour-long rain delay before the first pitch was thrown, the Cardinals scored five runs off RHP David Fischer (L, 3-4) in the second. Luke Dykstra started the scoring with a two-RBI-double. Darren Seferina sent a hot shot to first off the glove of Trey Vavra to plate two more. The inning was capped by a Tommy Edman double that scored Seferina to make it a 5-0 game.
All told, Fischer allowed six runs, five earned, over four innings. He failed to strike out a batter for the first time this season, and was outdone by Connor Jones (W, 4-3) who allowed one run over five innings on a wild pitch. The Palm Beach bullpen closed the game with four scoreless innings.
LHP Andrew Vasquez struck out four over 2.2 innings of scoreless relief in his Florida State League debut. Catcher Justin Hazard picked up his first FSL hit for the Miracle as well.
The Miracle look to bounce back with a victory on Sunday afternoon with first pitch at 1:00 PM ET. LHP Lachlan Wells will step to the mound for Fort Myers against RHP Jake Woodford.
