FORT MYERS, Fla. (June 20, 2017) - Early evening showers couldn't dampen the spirits of hundreds of children who lined up at the gates of Hammond Stadium to participate in the Fort Myers Miracle fidget spinner giveaway on Thursday, June 15.
The Fort Myers Miracle, Advanced-A affiliate of the Minnesota Twins, partnered with CenturyLink to present a Miracle fidget spinner giveaway on Thursday night as the team took on the Charlotte Stone Crabs, Advanced-A affiliate of the Tampa Bay Rays.
The first 500 kids ages 12 and under to enter the ballpark received an exclusive Miracle fidget spinner, and it was only a matter of minutes before all 500 had been given away. By first pitch, every child at Hammond Stadium could be seen with a green Miracle fidget spinner in hand.
Fidget spinners were originally designed to relieve stress and aid focus, and became widely popular with kids across the nation this spring. As a result of their high demand, many parents found themselves unable to get ahold of this popular toy for their children. The Miracle's giveaway was the perfect opportunity for members of the community to get their hands on a Miracle fidget spinner and support their team.According to CenturyLink Market Development Manager Shelly Chitwood, CenturyLink chose fidget spinners for this giveaway because of their popularity with children and teens. "We love to be involved in the community, especially when it comes to young families and kids."
Trey came to Thursday night's game dressed in Miracle attire from head to toe having just participated in Miracle Baseball Camp. Getting ahold of a Miracle fidget spinner on Thursday evening topped off his overall experience. Many children urged their parents to head out to the ballpark with plenty of time to spare before the gates opened to ensure that they were one of the first in line to receive a fidget spinner. Camilla Clark, mother of seven-year-old Trey, made sure to arrive early so her son could participate in the giveaway. "He was so excited," she explained, "He loves Miracle baseball and has been talking for weeks about how badly he wanted to be one of the first 500 kids tonight so he could get a Miracle fidget spinner."
As the night went on, the storm showers passed and it was all smiles from children at the CenturyLink Sports Complex as the Miracle went head to head with the Stone Crabs. Fort Myers Miracle General Manager Andrew Seymour was very pleased with the results of the giveaway, stating, "It was so popular with the kids, and that's our fan base in today, tomorrow, and the future. The follow up and the interest has been great. We had a nice lineup at the gate, and that's always gratifying, seeing people smile."
