FORT MYERS, Fla. - The Fort Myers Miracle used three home runs to defeat the Charlotte Stone Crabs, 6-3, Tuesday Night at Hammond Stadium.
With the Miracle trailing 1-0 in the first, Mark Contreras hit his first home run of the night to even the game at 1-1.
Then, with the Miracle trailing 3-1 in the sixth, Contreras again went deep off Charlotte starter Willy Ortiz to cut the deficit to 3-2. Later in the inning, with a runner at first and two out, Charlotte called on Adrian Navas to pitch to Jaylin Davis. Facing an 0-1 count, Davis belted a two-run home run to left to put the Miracle in front, 4-3.
Navas (0-1) suffered his first loss of the season. He allowed three runs on five hits in 1 2/3 innings.
The Miracle put the game out of reach in the eighth. With runners at first and third and one out, Lewin Diaz singled in a run. Taylor Grzelakowski made it 6-3 with a run-scoring ground-rule double. Grzelakowski, who finished the night 3-4, has now recorded six multi-hit games in his last 12 games.
Ryan Mason (2-1) tossed 3 1/3 scoreless innings to earn the win in relief.
Tyler Wells started for the Miracle and lasted just four innings in picking up a no-decision. He allowed two runs on five hits. Tom Hackimer followed Wells and went 1 2/3 innings. He allowed one run on three hits.
The series win is on the line Wednesday night. The Miracle will send left-hander Charlie Barnes (0-3, 5.14) to the mound while Charlotte will trot out right-hander Nathan Eovaldi (0-0, 9.00). Eovaldi is currently on an MLB rehab assignment. First pitch is scheduled for 7:00 p.m.
