Missions Drop Third Game of Series to Amarillo 6-4

AMARILLO (JULY 30, 2026) — The San Antonio Missions once again fell just short in a close game to the Amarillo Sod Poodles, who secured a 6-4 victory on Thursday night at Hodgetown. It marks the 10th time this year that San Antonio has dropped a game by two runs or less to Amarillo.

San Antonio jumped out to a 1-0 lead early. In the second, Chris Sargent’s RBI single drove in Ryan Jackson after his triple to lead off the inning.

Amarillo took a 2-1 advantage in the bottom of the second. Angel Ortiz and Jean Walter each provided solo blasts over the short porch in left.

In the fourth, the Sod Poodles extended their advantage to 4-1. Junior Franco drove in Ortiz with an RBI single, before Valdez drove in Franco with an RBI single of his own.

Druw Jones lined an RBI single in left in the fifth, scoring Ortiz.

San Antonio punched back in the sixth, pulling within two runs. A Braedon Karpathios sacrifice fly scored Tirso Ornelas. Later in the inning, Ryan Jackson drove in Jake Cunningham with an RBI single to make it 5-3. Jackson was 2-for-4 with an RBI.

A Gavin Logan solo home run pushed Amarillo’s advantage back to 6-3 in the sixth.

In the seventh, Kai Murphy ripped a solo home run to right. It was Murphy’s third long ball in 2026.

However, that’s the closest the Missions came to tying the score. Cunningham reached third in the eighth inning and Murphy got to second in the ninth, but Amarillo’s bullpen shut the door to secure a 6-4 victory.

Tucker Musgrove and Harry Gustin were bright spots in the San Antonio bullpen, each tossing scoreless innings. Musgrove has now struck out 17 batters in his last eight innings, and Gustin has provided three straight scoreless appearances.
