MYRTLE BEACH, SC - A seventh inning rally by the Pelicans (27-33, 70-60) undid the Wood Ducks (30-30, 54-75) in a 5-4 defeat on Thursday night. Chuck Moorman had a homer and two runs batted in for the offense in the losing effort.

Rehabbing starter Adrian Sampson worked five innings with only one unearned run allowed in his final start with the Wood Ducks. He also struck out four batters in his no decision.
Down East's offense had back-to-back two-run frames in the third and fourth. Moorman connected on his fifth homer of the year to tie the game in the third - a solo shot to left. Josh Altmann followed with a walk and scored on Josh Morgan's double down the left field line.
For Morgan, it's his second straight multi-hit game and his seventh straight with a hit - matching a season-high. In the fourth, an RBI double from Ti'Quan Forbes extended the lead to 3-1. With two outs in the inning, Moorman singled through the right side and Forbes ran through a stop sign from manager Howard Johnson and scored with a feet-first slide.
Tyler Ferguson was credited with a hold in the sixth inning despite allowing a run. He added a strikeout to help his cause. In the seventh, Jacob Shortslef allowed three hits and three runs to allow the Pelicans to take the lead.
With another loss by Buies Creek, the Wood Ducks don't lose ground in the race. However they have only ten games remaining including the last four games against the Astros, currently facing a 4.5 game deficit.
The Woodies return home for the final home stand of the season on Friday. The Lynchburg Hillcats will head to Grainger Stadium for the first time this season with fireworks coming after the game on Friday night.
